Part of a larger sustainability series, this video captures Earth Day as it is celebrated at the J.R. Simplot Company’s potato processing plant in Moses Lake, WA. It is one part human-interest, one part employee-thank you, and one part corporate recognition of the plant’s record-breaking energy-savings. That energy coup is due in large part to their Anaerobic Digester, affectionately called “Bertha”. Giving tours and educating the public about the science fueling Bertha is the cornerstone of Moses Lake’s Earth Day antics.
